Permafungi marks a major milestone by inaugurating Europe’s largest production plant in Forest (Brussels), dedicated to myco-material packaging (made from mushroom mycelium).
This large-scale project, made possible through the strategic support of visionary financial partners such as Après-demain, marks a true industrial revolution.
Following its production of edible mushrooms, Permafungi continues to pioneer the circular economy, setting its sights on becoming the leading European producer of circular and biodegradable mycelium packaging.
The “GeneRActions Planet” (Generations Responsibility Actions for the Planet) initiative, launched by Après-demain in 2021, aims to create a long-term positive impact by caring for the Planet. “This project perfectly illustrates the spirit of GeneRActions Planet! A circular approach that combines innovation and sustainability,” says Sebastien Beth, Director of Private Assets at Après-demain. He adds, “We strongly believe in this type of partnership, which demonstrates that together—private investors, public investors, communities, and entrepreneurs—we can create concrete and replicable solutions.”
This innovation is a direct response to the growing demand for sustainable alternatives to plastic and anticipates the European Union’s ban on non-circular packaging, set for 2030.
“Permafungi’s mission is to transform organic waste into innovative, 100% biodegradable, and custom-designed packaging solutions,” states Melvin Da Costa, Private Equity Associate for GeneRActions Planet. “Thanks to the power of mycelium, the used packaging returns to the earth after use, leaving no trace.”
Permafungi is already being acclaimed by pioneering brands in the cosmetics, design, and spirits industries.
